Her mom is still dating losers. Her boyfriend’s gone back to Mexico. Dad still hasn’t told his wife and kids that she exists. At school, the drama queens and bullies still rule. But worst of all for Allie Emerson (aka the Star Seeker of an old Gypsy prophecy) is that her powers have taken a hike. She can’t read minds anymore. She can’t move stuff just by looking at it. The other Star Seekers are counting on her psychic gifts more than ever, and the evil Trimarks are closing in, eager to snatch her magic moonstone necklace while she’s helpless. The hot new guy at school is ready and willing to fight her battles, but he comes with

some wicked baggage.

Dear diary: I’m a little worried. My new BF is a demon.

Welcome again to Allie Emerson’s funny, scary, amazing, and always unpredictable life, as the girl voted least likely to save the world from evil.

Beck moved closer. The heat from his golden eyes poured through my body like molten lava. I gasped in surprise.

“Keep looking at me, Allie Let me into your mind”

No problem. I couldn’t not look at him. I heard the splash of water and felt his finger brush the center of my forehead with warm liquid.

Beck’s voice was deep and whispery “May this healing water rid your mind of pain and distress.”

Still gazing into his eyes, I allowed his words to wash over me. I wanted to be healed, didn’t I? I visualized my mind as a clenched fist. I willed each finger to relax and extend outward, to release the guilt and pain I’d been clinging to. I jumped in shock when I felt a burst of pure energy arc from his body to mine.

Guest Post By Marilee:

First of all, many thanks to Jody for hosting me.

Moon Rise, book 2 in the Unbidden Magic series, introduces one of my most-fun-to-write characters, Beck Bradford. For me, it is Beck’s dual nature that makes him interesting. Picture this: the woman who would become your mother is in a convent, only a few months away from becoming a full-fledged nun. Enter the man who would become your father. Unfortunately, daddy is a succubus, aka lust demon, who preys upon sleeping women. Nine months later, Melissa Bradford gives birth to twins, Beck and Nicole. Still extremely devout but no longer the bride of Christ, Melissa needs a job and becomes a successful author of Christian fiction.

We meet Beck at the beginning of Moon Rise. Even though Melissa has reared the twins in the church, or as Beck describes it, “We spend a lot of time on our knees,” he constantly battles the demon within. He wants to be good and most of the time, he is. Most of the time. An accomplished healer, Beck senses Allie’s psychic wounds incurred when she killed a man while defending her mother. He has to earn her trust in order to heal her.

This brings us to a second issue. My books are fantasy with a smidgen of romance. Allie’s very first boyfriend, Junior Martinez, is missing in the second book and Beck is happy to step into the void. This subplot garnered criticism from fans of Junior who apparently wanted fifteen-year-old Allie to remain committed to him until both were old and gray. One reviewer even called her a “skank” to which I wanted to respond, “Oh, puhleese! How many fifteen-year-old girls stay with their first boyfriend for life?” And, rest assured, I had a master plan. We’re talking five books, folks, and Junior Martinez is a major player in books 3-5, as is Beck Bradford.

So, if you haven’t read the books, you’ll have to let me know which guy you like best, Junior Martinez or Beck Bradford. In book 4, Moon Spun, you’ll meet another hot guy, a visitor from faeryland, shape shifting Ryker Matheson. Allie, disgusted with both Junior and Beck, has sworn off men. But Ryker thinks otherwise, which leads to another plot twist that I hope readers with find interesting.
